MARIGOT--President of the Collectivité Daniel Gibbs and his team are fulfilling their election promise to undertake a major clean-up of the territory starting at the beginning of July 2017. The population is invited to share in this spirit of solidarity by making a conscious effort to contribute to environmental well-being and respect for the land.
The Sustainable Development Department and its Vice-President Steven Patrick have designated July 1, July 2, July 8 and July 9 as the dates for the clean-up operation.
The population at large is invited to join this clean-up in their private areas while the departments of the Collectivité will carry out daily cleaning routines on the public domain. Companies and associations are invited to join the Collectivité in this campaign.
To help in this collective effort, garbage bins and containers will be made available to residents of every district to dispose of their trash. Citizens are asked to do their sorting and deposit waste in the correct bins for that purpose.
These sorting efforts are of great significance because they allow workers at the eco-site facility in Grandes-Cayes to easily treat the waste and transform it if necessary into a waste re-cycling solution.
President Gibbs and fourth Vice-President, Steven Patrick, are appealing to their fellow citizens to actively take part in this clean-up campaign on July 1 and 2 for districts number 1, 2 and 3 (from Oyster Pond area to Cripple Gate/Friar’s Bay), and July 8 and 9, for the districts number 4, 5 and 6 (from Cripple Gate area to The Low-Lands).
During the two cleaning weekends, it will be possible to ask the civil servants of the Collectivité to remove old cars or big items from the private domain. Services will be available during the following week to pick them up.
The Collectivité is encouraging citizens to make use of this clean-up campaign to dispose of the maximum amount of waste during the two weeks mentioned. And it thanks the population in advance for working together and striving to keep our environment clean and our livelihood vibrant.
