A number of schoolchildren in St. Maarten wade through a jungle of bushes, a mud path and a walkway partially paved with shipping pallets to get to the classroom every day.
Parents in St. Peters, South Reward, Weymouth Hill and Ebenezer are forced to use the walkway in St. Peters to avoid waiting in the bumper-to-bumper traffic in the heavily congested Cul de Sac school district. This shortcut has its downside: children sometimes have to endure soggy and muddy shoes when it rains and the access becomes waterlogged. (John Halley photos)
