PHILIPSBURG--The St. Maarten Tourism Bureau (STB) will be launching “Season Celebration” on November 28 in collaboration with Port St. Maarten when the country welcome six cruise ships in port.

Season Celebration’s objective is to provide arriving cruise passengers entertainment so they can have a great on-island experience. Minister of Tourism and Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson said on Thursday that the destination is a showcase of duty-free shopping, entertainment, exquisite culinary delights, multiple tours and shore excursions that make “The Friendly Island” truly unique, providing memorable experiences for its visitors who keep coming back.

“As a country, this tourist season we must continue to showcase the destination to its highest standards and maintain those hospitality standards but remaining true to oneself of being The Friendly Island. All the facets of the destination are what keep our visitors coming back and will help grow tourism overall,” Johnson said.

STB Acting Director May-Ling Chun said that even though St. Maarten is one of the top destinations in the region, it has to evolve to remain at the top.

“We have to evolve, and the Season Celebration programme is part of the goals of STB and is also part of the governing programme. We have to make the visitors’ experience as memorable as possible so they keep coming back for more,” Chun said on Thursday.

There will be six cruise ships in port on November 28: MSC Seaside, Marella Explorer, Adventure of the Seas, Oriana, Harmony of the Seas and Seven Seas Navigator. The Season Celebration will include local entertainment between 10:00am and 4:00pm in the form of steel-pan playing, drum band, stilt walkers and a mini parade for the arriving visitors at the national seaport Port St. Maarten, Captain Hodge Wharf and Walter Plantz Square.

The visitors will have an opportunity to dance along with the dancers and will be provided with Carnival masks.
