The Cay Hill Tigers Vets won the 2019 Veteran 50+ Softball Competition at John Cooper Jose lake Sr. Ballpark. They defeated Controller Vets in the final. Mercedes Santana from the Tiger Vets was named competition batting Champion. He had a 727 batting average. Gene Proctor from Tiger Vets was named Winning Pitcher with a record of 10 wins and no losses.  The Home Run King was Mercedes Santana with six  blasts out of the park. Proctor was also named Most Valuable Player. Reginald Leonard was honoured as the oldest player in the league and James Hughes received a special award for his dedication to the sport of softball.

BELAIR--An elite team of runners from the French side’s Avenir Sportif Club clocked the fastest time of 2:18:36 to win the 32nd Around the Island Relay Race on Monday, shaving four minutes off last year’s winning time set by SXM Tri- Academie.

The 19th annual Diamond International Youth Tennis Tournament will be held at Raoul Illidge Sports Complex Saturday and Sunday. First serve Saturday is set for 10:00am. The competition organised by LAB Sports Academy is divided into male and female categories of Beginner, Under 10, Under 13, Under 15 and Open Class.  For more information call 587-9089.

The 19th annual Harbor to Pier Open Water Swim Meet will be held Sunday. Swimmers are to meet at the Cyrus Wathey Square at 6:30am.  At 6:45am the athletes will be transported to the Harbor.  The swim begins at 7:00am. Cost to enter is US $10 children 15 and under  or $15 for adults.  Breakfast after the race and a t-shirt will be given to all swimmers.  Trophies will be award to the two top finishers. The Coast Guard and Sheriff Security will be on the water to ensure the swimmers safety. For more information call 587-9089.




 

SIMPSON BAY—St. Maarten Road Runners, organiser of the 32nd Around the Island Relay Race on Monday, November 11, says some teams are still looking for runners and is appealing to recreational runners to come to Tri Sport in Simpson Bay to sign up as soon as possible. Level of teams vary from fun teams to competitive teams.
