Hi, my name is Desiree Winkel, owner and founder of Fitness Coaching. Fitness Coaching is a studio/gym where you can work out with professional trainers. Among the workout programs we offer are boot camps, cardio boxing, functional training, weight loss training, group training and personal training. We have studios in Simpson Bay and in Philipsburg that are open six days a week.
There is exciting news in town. Yes, there is! We are very proud to open our doors in Philipsburg – a new branch of Fitness Coaching. Fitness Coaching was established about 15 years ago. The first personal training studio in Sint Maarten, it has been copied so many times by different studios, but still after all these years, it remains the longest surviving fitness studio on the island – and for good reason.
Consistency of launching new programs all the time; business investments that keep trainers up to date; the push to have the most knowledgeable staff and trainers with medical knowledge are just a few of the reasons for its longevity.
In addition to Desiree’s Fitness Coaching studio in Simpson Bay, she has always wanted to open a studio in Philipsburg as well. She met Joost Prinsen about four months ago and when he mentioned the old Tempo unit in Philipsburg during one of their meetings, everything went very fast from there. Within six weeks, Fitness Coaching went from having no studio in Philipsburg to suddenly opening up a branch there, which Joost will run and manage.
Having been a coach and trainer for more than 25 years, Joost’s goal is to teach people how to move better before they really start training. Besides being a great trainer, Joost is also a great entrepreneur who earned his name co-owning and organizing the Dutch Throwdown, as well as many other exciting sport events. The Philipsburg branch is called Functional Training, although trainees of the Simpson Bay studio also receive knowledge on how to functional train as well.
Functional training is designed to improve core strength, balance and cardiovascular health, as well as promo relaxation. Targeted exercises are designed to deliver the maximum benefit for each participant and prepare them for daily tasks by simulation common movements you might do at home, work or in sports. While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability.
