Hi, my name is Desiree Winkel, owner and founder of Fitness Coaching. I’ve been working for years in my own personal training studio with clients who like to get fit and healthy, and even those who are in pain. My clients love to train in a cosy, clean, and absolutely friendly atmosphere. Follow what we do on Facebook.
First, I would like to give two thumbs up to every person who stayed on the island during the passing and the aftermath of the hurricane. For everybody who has gone through this disaster, it has been a very exhausting and difficult time. Knowing we still have a long way to go, I’d like to share with you the benefits of going back to the gym and/or personal training studio.
It is very hard for most people to get back to their “old” routine as some lost their roofs, their entire home, their car, their business and/or their job, resulting in heartache and financial crises. This hurricane also left me with damages; the house that I bought about two years ago was destroyed nearly completely. My newly renovated jeep was destroyed. I had to move with what little furniture that was left; 75% of all I owned was gone in one day.
Instead of looking at what I lost, I started to look at what was left and how privileged I was to be alive! Since I couldn’t work, I started to help others and this healed my wounds enormously. Luckily, my business had minor damages and I was able to open again on October 2 and honoured the cards clients still had from previous months.
We are open three days a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – from 7:00 till 11:00am and from 4:00 till 7:00pm for now. To help you get on your feet again, we have a $60 rate for a month’s use of the facility, personal training or regular classes just Until November 22.
I honestly know how difficult it is to get back to fitness. We have a thousand reasons NOT to return or even begin. Let me give you some tools to restart and feel great about yourself again.
1. Start small.
Like really, ridiculously small. Go for 30 or 40 minutes if you’re too tired. Go twice a week instead of three and you’ll notice that your body will soon start to ask for more.
2. Just do it.
I realize this is easier said than done, but there is no way around it. You just have to do it. The more you justify, analyse, think about or doubt it; the harder it’ll be to restart. Start today and the time will pass anyway.
3. Set a schedule and stick to it.
Have you heard that unless it’s written down, it isn’t real? Well, it’s true. Schedule your workouts, meals or hike dates like they are your important meetings at work that you would NEVER MISS. Write it down, pick a time, and don’t cancel on yourself. Don’t let yourself down. Besides, it’s easy to talk yourself out of something you just thought of doing, but it’s not so easy if it’s written down.
4. Start your day with a win.
A new morning is the perfect time for a fresh start – and what better way to start it than like a WINNER?! Have a great morning routine and you will set the tone for a productive, positive day.
5. Set yourself up for success.
Throw away everything in the kitchen that tempts you or causes you to go off track (donate it if you don’t want to waste food). Please don’t rely on will power alone; you need to persevere all you can. If you know you go crazy on peanut butter, get it out of the house and don’t buy it. Plan date nights for the next few weeks so you can avoid unhealthy dinners out and pick activities that support your focus for now. Maybe it’s time for a workout partner; when you don’t feel like it, your partner can force you and vice versa. Tell your friends, family or social media what your goals are so you will have accountability support. Then get to work.
6. Change your have-to’s to want-to’s.
This is a mindset thing. It’s important to address because while the other tips are great for short-term success in getting you back on track; this one will lead to long-term success and happiness in your chosen lifestyle. It’s time to change the have-to’s to want-to’s for real results.
Old: “I have to work out to get back in shape.”
New: “I want to feel great about my body again so I’m doing this.”
Old: “I have to avoid all sweets and sugar.”
New: “I want to see my abs again.”
No one wants to limit treats, but we do it because we want the feeling or results that come when we do. Focus on what you want; not what you have to do to get there. Eating healthy and working out is simple. Don’t overcomplicate it to the point that it consumes you. The people who figure out how to enjoy and make work-out an abundant and replenishing part of their lives are the real winners. And like I always say, a stronger body is a stronger mind.
