These are exciting times for soccer lovers, as the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar reaches its climax. This Sunday’s final is considered a dream match-up by many.
Argentina led by one of if not the best footballers ever, Lionel Messi, faces holders France with the potential next name to earn a spot in that group Kylian Mbappe. Both countries have won two titles before just like Uruguay, so one will rise to number four on the all-time championships list behind Brazil (5), Germany and Italy (both 4).
What helped make the tournament attractive were surprise results, including a Cinderella run by Morocco, beating Spain and Portugal to become the first African participant that reaches the semi-finals, with massive backing from the Arab world in host nation Qatar and elsewhere. And while Croatia was the runner-up in 2018, few expected it to win against Brazil in the quarter-finals.
Third-place games are often seen as relatively meaningless, but Saturday’s version between these teams based on what they have shown up to now could be one to remember. Certainly, for Morocco, bronze would still be a major feat.
However, most eyes are obviously focussed on what is going to happen Sunday. Locally, especially with the Netherlands knocked out by Argentina, much of the island will obviously be supporting the French team also on the Dutch side.
Allez Les Bleues!
