MARIGOT--After four years of inventory and reconstitution, transfer of ownership from the French State to the Collectivité of all land parcels located in the “50 pas Géométriques” zone has just been completed, the Préfecture disclosed.
It is the result of a collaboration between State departments and the Collectivité’s urban planning department. The almost-73-hectare heritage property stretches from Sandy Ground to French Quarter.
Certain private properties located on the urbanised band of the 50 pas were totally destroyed during Hurricane Irma; such is the case for Sunrise II, an allotment located in Oyster Pond, on parcel AY 751.
Given the excessive exposure of this parcel to risk and partial collapse of the cliff, a procedure for an amicable acquisition by the State from various co-owners was engaged in and compensation given via the Barnier Fund, a prevention fund accessed in case of major natural hazards occurring. The ruins of the property will soon be demolished and the land returned to its natural state.
