COLE BAY--Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) Foundation now offers the free BirdSleuth Caribbean educational programme. EPIC will provide all the educational materials to participants.
Bird enthusiast Binkie van Es will deliver the programme once a week for eight weeks. The classes range from 90-120 minutes and are taught in the classroom and outdoors. The programme is designed for children ages 9-13, but can be adapted for younger or older students.
Developed by Cornell Lab of Ornithology, BirdSleuth is an inquiry-based science curriculum that focuses around birds to engage students in scientific study and real data collection. This programme follows a bird’s entire life cycle and their relation and dependence on other plants and animals in their environment.
The overall goal of the programme is to develop a strong conservation ethic in young people and promote commitment to environmental stewardship.
