Changes to pension scheme postponed to January 2019

PHILIPSBURG--Pending changes to the country’s civil servants pension scheme, including the change of the retirement age from 62 to 65, are “delayed” until January 2019. Changes were to take effect on July 1 this year.

Civil servants were informed by a letter of June 13, signed by Finance Minister Mike Ferrier on behalf of Prime Minister/General Affairs Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin, that the pension change by July 1 was “no longer feasible.”

“Preparations to have the necessary legislation in place are taking longer than anticipated,” according to the letter.

The General Pension Fund APS and the Department of Personnel and Organisation are to hold information sessions to inform civil servants about the changes “in due time.”
