ST. EUSTATIUS--A Christmas tree-lighting ceremony took place Sunday evening at Wilhelmina Park on the southern side of St. Eustatius. A large crowd turned out to witness the official ceremony.

The Dominican Association of St. Eustatius hosted the event and had invited the public to come out and join their celebration. This event has been taking place for more than 14 years. Ginger tea and various other delicacies were served at the party.

“We may be from many countries and islands, but we are one people,” pastor Simon Wilson of the Roman Catholic Church said. He encouraged the attendees to remain as one and “live more in harmony with each other.”

Besides the Christmas tree, the surrounding area of the park was decorated with Christmas messages, such as “Merry Christmas” and “Season’s Greetings.”
