In the new prison on Bonaire, managed by Judicial Institution for the Caribbean Netherlands JICN, several volunteers were detained as testers last weekend. Some of them have undergone detention and the daily programme as a detainee for 24 hours.
Among them was Judge of the Joint Court of Justice John Schols (in photo) who volunteered for 24 hours to be detained and treated like a regular prisoner. On the one hand, this was to experience what it’s like to be detained and on the other hand to provide JICN with information about safety and about appropriate and humane conditions for future detainees.
