CAY HILL--The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested a man Y.A.M. in the Cay Hill area around 1:00am Thursday for breaking curfew without a valid travel waiver and for marijuana possession. He was fined US $1,400 for these offences.
According to police, patrol officers saw M. walking toward Cay Hill early Thursday morning. Because the curfew was in effect, officers stopped him and asked why he was on the road.
“The young man told police officers that he was visiting a friend and that he was on his way home,” said police in a press release on Friday.
Officers then asked M. if he had a travel waiver. “He showed the officers a waiver, claiming it was his. At the same time, he was also requested to identify himself,” said police.
- gave officers his identification (ID) card and they noticed that the name on the ID card did not match the name on the travel waiver he had in his possession.
The police arrested M. because of this infraction.
Officers then searched his clothing and found an undisclosed amount of marijuana in his pants pocket. “The marijuana and the waiver were confiscated for further investigation,” said police.
- was taken to the Philipsburg police station and incarcerated. Later that day, police took a statement from him about the marijuana and the fraudulent travel waiver.
Police slapped him with a $1,400 fine and released him from custody.
