PHILIPSBURG--Former National Alliance (NA) leader, and former NA Member of Parliament (MP) William Marlin has suggested that the Dutch Quarter Community Center be renamed.
He made the call for the renaming of the centre during his lengthy final speech at the closing of the 2020-2024 Parliamentary year on Friday, February 9.
Marlin said like his suggestion to rename the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) after the late Vance James Jr. (reported on in the February 16-17 edition of “The Daily Herald”), he believes that the Dutch Quarter Community Center should be renamed after a former St. Maarten politician.
“I propose that the Dutch Quarter Community Center be renamed after the hard-working former Commissioner of Education, Social Affairs and Culture, the late Edgar Hubert Lynch,” Marlin told his fellow outgoing MPs at the time. “He [the late Edgar Lynch – Ed.] had worked tirelessly for the realisation of the community centre in Dutch Quarter and deserves to be recognised for his efforts,” Marlin noted.
