MIDDLE REGION--No homes were damaged or burned in the bush fire on the Middle Region hill on Monday night. The blaze was largely extinguished by Tuesday morning, but the St. Maarten Fire Department continues to monitor the area as a precaution.
Despite the flames creeping perilously close to several homes in Middle Region and Sucker Garden, the bush fire was extinguished without damage to personal property.
The fire left the hillside charred and columns of white smoke rose from several spots on the hill throughout Tuesday. Fire Department officials confirmed that certain areas had re-ignited into open flame, but they said these had died down without incident.
The Fire Department said it continues to monitor the area in case more flare-ups occur on Tuesday night.
