Prosecutor: Life of Gendarme  struck by scooter not in danger

MARIGOT--Following the incident Tuesday evening in which a Gendarme was injured by a scooter rider who did not respect a diversion put in place in Sandy Ground for a Comité Opérationnel Départmentale Anti-Fraude (CODAF) control of bars.

The public prosecutor Xavier Sicot said Thursday the victim’s life was not in danger. The scooter rider hit the Gendarme in the lower limbs causing him serious injuries. He was treated by the emergency services and transported to Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital.

"Even though seriously injured, the prognosis is not life-threatening,” the prosecutor confirmed. “The victim underwent emergency surgery and his condition is indeed serious. Further evaluation will be done by the medical professionals attending to him.”

The Gendarmerie has since opened an investigation into attempted murder. According to the Gendarmerie the scooter rider turned himself in to the Gendarmerie on Wednesday and was subsequently placed in custody.
