SURFACE WINDS: 
This afternoon through Friday midday: Northerly to southeasterly with a light breeze of 04 to 07 mph, becoming calm and variable at times. 

SYNOPSIS:   

Available moisture transported across the region by light winds is predicted to increase isolated showers during this forecast period. 

Long period swells generated by major Hurricane Sam is peaking up to 8 feet. An improvement is expected from today, as the hurricane continues to move further away from the region. Consequently, a high surf and small craft advisories remain in effect for St. Maarten until this evening. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise extreme caution. 

STATE OF THE SEA:  Moderate to rough      WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 8 feet  

SPECIAL FEATURES: 
1. At 11:00am, the center of major Hurricane Sam was located about 370 miles north northeast of St. Maarten with maximum sustained winds near 145 mph.
On its current forecast track, Sam is moving further away from St. Maarten, toward the northwest near 13 mph. 

2. The center of Tropical Storm Victor, located in the far eastern Atlantic at about 2370 miles southeast of St. Maarten. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 with higher gusts. Although Victor is predicted to become a hurricane on Friday, this system poses no threat to St. Maarten.  

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor these systems and update the public accordingly.
