SYNOPSIS:
Pockets of moisture embedded in the wind flow may cause isolated showers across the local area. Saharan dust at varying concentrations will move across the region during the next few days. Persons with allergies and/or respiratory illnesses should take the necessary precautions. Meanwhile, the Atlantic high pressure system will continue to generate mostly moderate winds.
Seas are expected to deteriorate and peak at 9 feet over the next few days. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to Rough WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 9 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: At 11:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm Gonzalo was located near latitude 10.0 North, longitude 54.2 West or about 820 miles southeast of St. Maarten. The system is moving toward the west near 18 mph with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph and higher gusts. Strengthening is possible during the next day or so before Gonzalo reaches the southern Windward Islands. This system is expected to pass well south of St. Maarten. Gonzalo currently poses no direct threat to St. Maarten. The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of this system and keep the public updated accordingly.
