St. Maarten Midday Weather Forecast for Friday

DATE ISSUED: Friday, July 29, 2016 @ 12:00 LST (16:00 UTC)

VALID UNTIL: Saturday midday (12:00 LST) July 30, 2016

WEATHER:
This afternoon through Saturday midday: Partly cloudy with a local shower possible at first, becoming generally cloudy with scattered showers and a risk of  thunder tomorrow.

Forecast High: 31°C / 88°F             Forecast Low: 27°C / 81°F

Sunset Today:  6:47 P.M.                Sunrise Tomorrow: 5:50 A.M.

SURFACE WINDS:
This afternoon through Saturday midday: Northeast to east with a gentle to fresh breeze of 10 to 19 miles per hour.

SYNOPSIS:

A relatively dry and stable atmosphere is currently restricting precipitation across the local region. However, an approaching tropical wave will cause cloudiness, showers and possible thunder during the latter part of this forecast period.

Seas are expected to start deteriorating this evening. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.

STATE OF THE SEA:  Slight to moderate        WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 7 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE: A tropical wave located east of the Lesser Antilles is moving rapidly westward. The associated shower activity is poorly organized and given the fast motion of the system, development should be slow to occur. However, this system will likely bring showers and gusty winds to portions of the Leeward Islands during this weekend.

This system has a 20% chance of development over the next 48 hours. The St. Maarten Meteorological Department will monitor the progress of this system.

OUTLOOK through Sunday midday: Cloudy with isolated showers and a risk of thunder.

FORECASTER: Albert

The next weather forecast will be issued today at 18:00 LST (22:00 UTC).
