The Royal Decoration Committee.
ST. EUSTATIUS--The very first newsletter issued by the Chancellery of the Netherlands Orders, which has been in existence for more than 200 years, features an article with a photo of the Royal Decoration Committee in St. Eustatius, which was appointed in September 2020.
The committee members are president Anica Marsdin, secretary Marion Schroen and members Maxine Spanner-Suares, Rosabel Blake and Beulah Simmons-Merkman.
Dutch nationals are decorated annually for noteworthy contributions in their respective communities. Municipalities in the European Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean islands can submit candidates annually for a royal decoration.
The royal decorations are awarded during the so-called “ribbon rain” or “lintjesregen”, which takes place annually on April 26, the day before King Willem-Alexander’s birthday on April 27, albeit in a modified form this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It took a lot of effort and commitment of both the members of the committee and the family members and friends of the nominees to submit the documents with thorough background information outlining why the person nominated should be considered for the year 2021,” said Schroen.
Residents of Statia can send in the names of nominees for a royal decoration at any time through
