World Animal Day celebrated at zoo

MADAME ESTATE--The St. Maarten Zoological and Botanical Garden Foundation celebrated World Animal Day with the “Arts, Crafts & Stuff” event on Sunday, October 4. The day was a success, with a great turnout and a good show of support by the community and sponsors, says Foundation President Amy Arrindell.

Children participated in an informative, interactive tour centred on the zoo’s 46 different species. The foundation also collaborated with Funtopia which painted children’s faces and provided other children’s entertainment. Proceeds will go to the Funtopia Youth Initiative.

The Sr. Basilia Center was amongst the groups that turned out at the event. “Arts, Crafts & Stuff” was made possible partially by donations from Toppers, Taloula Mango’s and food by Esther van Putten. Arrindell also commented that the board has worked very hard to keep the zoo open.

The Foundation is already planning for its next event, “Boo at the Zoo,” slated for Friday, October 30.
