PHILIPSBURG--A 19-year-old man was sentenced to two weeks suspended, on two years’ probation and eighty hours of community service, for the sale of ecstasy pills at Milton Peters College (MPC) between August 16, 2017 and August 24, 2017.
The Judge said, Wednesday, that selling drugs in school is a serious crime and sentenced Raynaldo Richinell Prescott-Cras according to the Prosecutor’s demand.
Prescott was sentenced in absentia as the “untraceable” suspect did not show up for the hearing. He was summoned to appear in Court as he had also failed to show up at the Probation Office, which had been one of the conditions for a conditional dismissal. The other conditions were payment of a $50 fine and 60 hours of community service.
In August last year, a security guard at MPC was tipped off that Prescott had ecstasy pills in his possession. He was searched and found in the possession of 24 pills, which all proved to be the party-drug ecstasy.
Prescott had told the police that he had found the capsules in a school bus hidden in a pen case. He offered them for sale at the school to earn money and actually sold several of them. One of his client’s landed in hospital after taking one of the pills.
Attorney-at-law Safira Ibrahim pleaded with the Court to cut her client’s penalty by half. “It is a serious crime, but my client did not have any other run-ins with the law and has cooperated with the investigation,” the lawyer said in her client’s defence.
