GEORGETOWN, Guyana--The man who entered the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry earlier this week and threatened to blow up the financial institution if he did not get GUY$10 million (US $48,995) will spend the next three years in prison.
Terrence Anthony McLean, a 34-year-old criminal deportee, was jailed today after pleading guilty to demanding the money with intent to steal.
An unrepentant McLean appeared in court, not only insisting that the money should have been handed over to him, but criticising the bank’s security system.
“They should have handed over the money because if a next person come in with a bomb they all will die,” he told the court.
According to the facts laid out by the prosecution, McLean walked into the bank in the capital on Tuesday morning, asked to speak to a manager, and then demanded the money from the bank employee, giving her a note that read “ISIS. There is a bomb in the bag, give me $10M or we will all die.”
The bank’s security was alerted and McLean was apprehended. When police arrived, he dropped his bag and shouted “Allah Akhbar.” But when the bag was searched, only a knife and pieces of paper were found. ~ Caribbean360 ~
