BELAIR-- Dimitri Celestina and Michael John Every, from Curacao, won the the first SXM Padel Open for Advanced Players Tournament Sunday. Celestina and Every bested Nicolas Jaume and Matthew Riffat of French St. Martin in 2 sets with the scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
Earlier that evening, Ignacio Jauregui (Sxm Padel Club principal) and Aldo Ricci of St. Maarten clinched third place.
The competition began Thursday with 24 players divided into 12 doubles teams. The competition was truly international with athletes from France, Belgium, Martinique, Curacao and from both sides of the Friendly island.
The winners received multiple prizes from the event sponsors including accommodation certificates at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort, certificates for Sunday Brunch at the Infinity Restaurant, cases of Heineken 0.0, padel bags from the SXM Padel Club pro shop. The trophies for the winners were custom made by the team at Imagen Graphics. In addition to the prizes the players were given complimentary drinks while playing courtesy of Coca Cola, Dasani and Powerade. The St. Maarten Tourist Bureau also was one of the main sponsors of this yearly event promoting this new activity on the island.
