WASHINGTON D.C.-- Grand Master Theo Liu, representing St. Maarten, attended and passed the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) newly introduced International Master Course.
Effective July 2023, only masters and Grandmasters around the world who are certified as an International Master will be able to apply for the Kukkiwon Dan Black belts for their students.
“We want our St. Maarten student athletes to have the great opportunity to acquire international recognized black belts,” said Grandmaster Liu.
“This is a once in a life time opportunity to have St. Maarten as a small country accepted by the Kukkiwon, the Head Quarter of Taekwondo in Seoul, South Korea.”
The course was held from June 27 to July 1 2022 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm with theoretical and practical sessions conducted by the Korean professionals of the World Taekwondo Academy.
Trainings were also offered by the Korean Olympic Gold Medal winner and the World Poomsee (Patterns) champion.
The course was closed with both a practical and written exams for the 200 Masters and Grandmasters of the 25 foreign countries and 35 USA states.
Grand Master Liu pass the exams successful, received his diploma, and secure herewith that our country St. Maarten be international recognized by the Kukkiwon.
He received also from the President of the Kukkiwon, Doctor Lee Dong Sup a letter of Commendation in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development and dissemination of Taekwondo.
The course was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters), celebration at the Hyatt Regency Dulles Hotel in Washington D.C.
“The World Taekwondo Demo team also came from South Korea and did a magical show for the public,” said the Grandmaster.
“At the opening ceremony, our flag was also carried around between all other countries.”
