St. Maarten to field team at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championship

  GUADALUPE --A team of martial arts athletes from SXM BJJ will travel to Guadalupe on Friday to compete in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu CFJJB Caraibes Open Championship November 2nd. The second annual Caraibes Open is organized by the CFJJB, the French counterpart of the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation.

The IBJJF is the largest and most recognized Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation worldwide. Blackbelt Professor and founder of SXM BJJ Melissa Bardfield, St Maarten-born Black belt Jami Eloi and Brown Belt Coach/Self Defense instructor, Johan Muñoz Rodriguez and 11 year old yellow Belt athlete Ottone Faurois will compete in their respective belt divisions. Black belts Melissa and Jami will compete in both gi and no-gi divisions.

This will be Professor Jami’s black belt jiu jitsu competition debut. The tournament will take place at the Palais de Sports in Le Gosier. The team will be testing their skills again at the local SMMAF competition at the Great Bay Sports Auditorium on Saturday, November 9.
