Tour de Philipsburg starts off in the dark

PHILIPSBURG--Mathew Gosse won the Beginner Division of the first Tour de Philipsburg bicycle race Saturday. Organized by the St. Maarten/St. Martin Cycling Club Association (SCCA), the Tour attracted 22 riders divided into five divisions for a night time race around town.

The Elite division was won by Hamlet Freddy form Guadeloupe. Clerc Alban took top honours in the Cadet division and Suzy Piscione won the Female group. Arnaud Gosse won the Masters class.
“The night race begun with a moment of silence for our fallen police officer Mr. Benjamin who was proactive in bicycle racing as his presence will surely be missed,” said Timothy Simmon from the organizing committee.
“We want to do new and creative things to draw in the youth,” said SCCA president Jean Paul. “The night race was a success. To see the lights on the bikes as they rounded the corner.”
The race started and finished at Clem Labega Square.
Making the race posable were NAGICO, Caribbean Liquors, Cactus Diner, Veronica Webster, Canoa Restaurant, Enoch Restaurant, Big Fish Restaurant, Bikini Restaurant, Go-kart Racing and Rosemary Restaurant.
