World Coaches Avinash Bhattoe and Lugard Mendoza are working with FC Belvedere.
BELVEDERE-- FC Belvedere has embarked on a five-year program to breathe new life into the club while teaching both football and life skills to the athletes from the Under six team up to and including the Under 13 squad.
Evaluating the club and putting together the plan are World Coaches Avinash Bhattoe and Lugard Mendoza.
World Coaches is a KNVB, Netherland Football Federation, programme that trains local football coaches to be trainers as well as role models in their community. The programme focuses on personal development, health and social cohesion.
Four months ago, the two World Coaches decided to strengthen the FC Belvedere association. A plan was devised to breathe new life into Fc Belvedere in part by attracting boys and girls not only from Belvedere but also Dutch Quarter, Middle Region and French Quarter.
Quickly the number of children in the program grew. The World Coaches realized they would need help in the form of both equipment and more coaches as well as support from parents, local residents, the private sector and government.
The St. Maarten Football Federation was the first to come forward but it was clear as the group continued to grow more help was needed.
World Coach Avinash got in touch with Jos van Deventer, who has lived and worked on St. Maarten for a number of years and is a member of the Dutch football organization Excelsior 20.
Within a few weeks, Deventer ensured that the first donation was on its way to the island.
