Dance till you almost drop

How to survive a festival

We might be a bit late as SXM Festival has just closed its brilliantly decorated doors and you will have to wait a whole year to stand in front of its many stages again. BUT maybe SXM Festival has created a new obsession within your body: one that includes good music, a lot of dancing and – unfortunately– a lot of stinky toilets.

Yes, all of the great things at a music festival outweigh the bad in our opinion, BUT a festival can be a mission for your body and mind to get through. Here are a few tips to keep in mind for all your festival-goings to come.

Before you leave your house, make sure you have your tickets, ID, enough cash, fully charged phone, paper with important numbers written down, extra sweater, sunscreen, sunglasses, earplugs, hand sanitizer, gum, basic medication and toilet paper (or even better BABY WIPES)!

When you start partying at the festival, remember to make a mental note or even write down where you parked, make sure you hide valuables and have everything you need, find out where the toilets as well as the emergency services are, and agree on a “lost and found” spot with friends for if group members get separated.

Now you are READY to PARTY and have fun, but remember to drink water, keep an eye on your drinks, drink responsibly, know your limits, party with a friend, be respectful towards others and do not request a song from the DJ.

Here are some scenarios to prepare for

Toilets

Although every festival has the same issues, how to keep toilets clean during a festival has still not been resolved for some reason. So you must be prepared to deal with all kinds of body fluids and no toilet paper. You will be thankful for having your toilet paper/baby wipes. To not touch the seat, make sure you squat. If you need help balancing, hold on to the walls; and if the walls are dirty, then use a piece of paper to hold on to them.

Life decisions

You’re the happiest you have ever been, surrounded by the best people you have ever met and greatest music you have ever heard. You are going to leave your girlfriend, quit your job and sell your house. NO! Just NO! Do not EVER make any life decision at a festival.

Drinks/Drugs

So you (or your friend) drank or “took” too much and now you’re feeling sick. Hopefully, you are good enough friends to help each other out. Get out of the crowd and find a good corner (if the toilets are not an option) to throw up and/or catch your breath. Again, the toilet paper and baby wipes will come in handy. Have a friend get some water and help each other sober up. If it is beyond the healing powers of water, don’t be stupid, go see a medic! If you do feel better, make sure to pop that mint before you head back to the dance floor; it’s only social.

Happy raving, festival lovers!
