Desiree - Bungee fitness is here!

Hi, my name is Desirée Winkel. I am the owner and founder of Fitness Coaching. Fitness Coaching is a studio/gym where you can work out with professional trainers. Boot camps, Cardio box, weight-loss training, group training and personal training are just view workouts.

People, who know me as owner and founder of Fitness Coaching, know I am not so much about chasing the fitness hypes. Over all the years I have worked in the fitness field, I have seen many types and hypes of trainings come and go.

When I travelled recently, I noticed a couple of personal training studios in the USA promoting a “new” training. BUNGEE FITNESS.

Me, as a thrill seeker and bungee jumper in the past, was immediately interested in this new way of getting fit. It looked challenging and most of all a lot of fun.

Let me explain what it entails. Bungee fitness is a fun workout. You are wearing a harness attached to bungee cords that will provide assistance and resistance throughout the class. The harness goes around your waist and legs to keep you secure and comfortable throughout the workout.

Originally this workout was “born” in Thailand. In 2017, a studio in Arizona started this type of training and then went viral on Facebook; that’s when this Bungee Fitness became popular.

Benefits of Bungee Workouts

The primary benefit is increasing heart rate and endurance, building muscle and burning calories. Bungee gives you a full-body workout, expect to work your core, legs, arms and back.

Thanks to the harness and bungee, you'll get a low-impact workout that combines cardio and strength moves without a compromise in intensity. A standard class is 70 per cent cardio and 30 per cent strength training, and includes lunges, squats, push-ups and loads of jumping.

The great thing is that people who love ZUMBA will love this workout.  Because it's so unique, it's a great way to either re-ignite your love of working out without it feeling like a huge effort, or stepping out of your comfort zone and tackling a new challenge.

Who Can Do a Bungee Workout?

If you're a first-timer or don't regularly work out, don't feel deterred. This workout is very accessible to all ages and body types, and can get people moving in a new and different way.

People who have had knee, hip or other body issues, can find a lot of benefits from the low-impact nature of bungee fitness. Additionally, for people who want more cardio in their fitness routine, but don't care for treadmills, jogging or other activities, bungee can be a wonderful alternative."

What to Expect in a Bungee Workout class

The first few times you enter the studio, expect there will be a learning curve. Classes require trust in and a degree of familiarity with the bungee system. Our studio offers every month an introduction class on Saturday in order for you to get comfortable with the equipment.

The harness and system are somewhat customizable, based on the participant's height and weight. Our instructors will adjust the harness to fit your body. Because the harness can be a bit daunting at first, in a typical class the first five minutes are spent beneath the bungee line, getting people used to the resistance and equipment.

After the familiarization period, the workout begins with a series of strength moves, such as lunges, squats and push-ups, using more and more resistance as the workout moves along. The last 20 minutes are pure cardio, and you can expect to run, leap and dive your way around the room.

Tips for Your First Bungee Workout.

It may feel a bit uncomfortable during the first class as your hips and body get used to wearing the harness, so in addition to bringing a water bottle and wearing fitted, moisture-wicking workout clothes, we recommend wearing a bike shorts over leggings, or a second pair of leggings to reduce the sensation of the harness your first few times with the equipment.

In general, though, come to class with an open mind and adventurous spirit. It's hard to prepare physically for a bungee class, because there is truly nothing like it. A squat doesn't feel like a squat and a lunge doesn't feel like a lunge; it will all feel extremely new and unique the first time. You just have to come with an open mind and ready to laugh and sweat!

Our classes are starting in August. We do have limited space available, since participants need a lot of space to do this work out. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday night 6:45 pm.
