Desiree - The hype of the diets

Hi, my name is Desiree Winkel, owner and founder of Fitness Coaching. Fitness Coaching is a studio/gym where you can work out with professional trainers. Among the workout programs we offer are boot camps, cardio boxing, weight loss training, group training and personal training.

In my personal training studio, we train a lot of clients – mainly to get fit and healthy. Our group training for weight loss has been, and still is, an enormous success. Over the years, I have noticed that the urge to lose weight is larger, unfortunately, than the urge to just be fit and healthy.

Seriously, it drives me nuts. Lose 20 pounds in 20 days… 10 days to perfect abs… Wear this patch and shrink… Drink this with no exercise and lose all your fat… Fast for so many hours and lose your fat… Eat loads of healthy fats and get slim. We have heard it all; we have seen it all; and maybe have even tried it all. It’s funny that so many people still fall for this nonsense.

Don’t get me wrong. These days EVERYBODY wants to have EVERYTHING done fast and easy, even though it probably took years for their bodies to get so out of control. Believe me when I say that ANY diet will work in the short-term. Basically, to see people struggling to lose weight makes me a bit sad. We all know that with age, it’s more difficult to lose weight than when you were younger. Menopausal women especially struggle a lot. We all, including me, have experienced weight-gain in the mid-section of our core, but even that problem has a solution.

I am not saying that diets do not work. In our weight loss program, we give our clients a very simple easy to maintain diet plan. After explaining this menu, we always tell the clients that it’s a change in their food habits – and that is exactly what is your key to success: CHANGING YOUR FOOD HABITS.

We all know that when we start a diet, we start to crave some foods immediately – foods that you even did not want before. How is that? Our brains are smart, even smarter than you may think. If we put the word diet in our minds, our brain automatically starts to tune into survival mode. It thinks that it will not get food for a while and therefore starts to give signals to start eating. However, if you tell your mind that you want to live and eat healthier, your brain starts to stimulate that process after about three weeks.

What I have noticed with people who go on a journey with new food habits is that their family most of the time do NOT support them. If they drink bad drinks, family members want them to do the same – and the same applies to food. These people do not want you to succeed just because of the simple fact that they will feel badly about themselves if you do!

So in the cyber world with all these different ideas of living, dieting and exercising, we get really confused. I read an article on facebook that says that McDonald’s fries are good for you because you don’t lose your hair – sorry but I give up. Get somebody with knowledge, somebody that you trust and somebody who can guide you the correct way to success. Do not believe everything the cyber world tells you. Also be careful what you put into your body because nature has her way of supplying us with nearly everything we need.

Hope you guys had a great Regatta time and are preparing for a great 50 years of carnival.
