Group activities at the beach all morning? Yes please! The Regatta Foundation is hosting a fun beach cleanup day for kids! The 7th Annual Beach Cleanup will take place Saturday, January 26, from 9:00am sharp to 12:30pm at Kim Sha beach.
The day starts off with a competitive beach cleanup. Everyone will be split into teams, within two age categories: 6-12 years and 13-18 years. Each team will do its best to collect the most waste as possible, within 30 minutes.
After the cleanup, Nature Foundation will host a quiz, and you’ll learn all about pollution, especially when it comes to marine life and the environment. Pollution has been a growing problem all over the world for decades, and is a big problem right here on the island too. You can help out by being part of the solution!
After quiz time, it’s time to get active again! There will be different sports and games to play, which have all been organised by LAB Sport Academy.
After an active morning, you’ll enjoy some pizza, provided by Domino's Pizza. The winners of the cleanup, quiz segment, and sport activities will also receive prizes.
Does your school encourage community work? The beach cleanup can count towards your community hours.
“This beach cleanup is an event where you, together with your friends, can help the island and have fun as well,” says the day’s organizer, Anouk van Loon. “This beach cleanup is a combination of education and fun.”
This year’s beach cleanup is made possible by LAB Sports Academy, St. Maarten Nature Foundation, Trisport, Funtopia, the Scubashop, Intertoys, Ocean Explorers, Random Wind, Fiji Water, Domino’s, Shipwreck, Rainforest Adventures, Timeless Spirits, Meadowlands, Carrefour, Seaside Nature Park, Carousel, and Print & Sign Express.
