Folded wraps

Folded wraps

*As always, have an adult with you in the kitchen.

A trend born on the internet, folded wraps are simply a fun way to add any toppings you would like in an easy and convenient way. They’re a nice school lunch idea, quick and fun to make, with lots of possibilities. Each kid can make their own at home, together. Pair with a fruit or some crunchy veggies and you’ve got yourself a great lunch.

The basic idea is to divide the tortilla wrap visually into four equal parts. Make one cut with a scissors halfway down the centre, and top each quarter with different ingredients. Then, starting from a cut edge, fold the wrap over three times, and you’ll have a neatly layered wrap.

If you have an ingredient in one quarter that would easily spill out, try to keep that on the quarter that would not need to be lifted to avoid making a mess.

You can gently heat the wrap in the microwave or on the stovetop first to make it easier to fold.

Think of toppings that you like on sandwiches. In general, you can do something like a meat, a cheese, a veggie, and a sauce. Or, make that two veggies, a cheese and a sauce… it’s all up to you. You can use the same concept for a dessert or sweet treat, think of sliced banana, strawberry, whipped cream and a little bit of chocolate.

It’s best to have ingredients that aren’t too bulky, so you can slice or cut everything into smaller pieces. Only put a little of each ingredient, or it might be too heavy and soggy.

Most can be kept cold, like a regular sandwich, or you can also crisp it up on the stovetop with a little oil to make the edges crispy and melt any cheese inside.

Some combinations to try:

* Turkey slices, cream cheese, onion, cucumber.

* Black beans (or refried beans), shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream.

* Scrambled egg, ham, shredded cheese, salsa or hot sauce.

* Hummus, olives, cucumber, crumbled feta cheese.

* Sliced strawberry, sliced banana, whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate.

* Ham slices, pepper jack cheese, pickles, lettuce.

* Cream cheese, shredded carrot, sweet pepper, sweet chilli sauce.
