Hero Animals

-Binti Jua the Gorilla-

Gorillas are amazing animals. As you can see in the Tarzan movie, they travel in herds, which are basically just giant families. Extremely territorial, they have no problem attacking anyone who enters their territory and they deem a threat. Naturally we want to see these terrific animals, but lack the funds to search the African jungles for them. So as an affordable option we visit them in a zoo.

This must have been the theory of a three-year-old boy's family in Illinois in the United States when they took him to the zoo. Unfortunately for them, their son fell into the Gorilla enclosure instead. It was an 18ft drop and the toddler suffered a suspected, massive head trauma. As Gorillas are extremely territorial, police and paramedics could not rush in to look after the young lad, because they would risk a gorilla attack worthy of a King Kong movie. Already handlers were worried about how the Gorillas would react to the toddler in their enclosure.

Therefore they were pleasantly surprised when Binti Jua, a female Gorilla at the zoo, pulled a real live Tarzan and rescued the unconscious little boy. She cradled the little boy and carried him over to the "Staff Only" entrance in the enclosure, where paramedics were able to take care of him more easily.

If it hadn't been for this motherly gorilla, officials agree that the toddler's condition could have been a lot worse.
