DOET, which is the biggest volunteer initiative in the Dutch Kingdom, continued in Statia late last month. The island was full of volunteer activity, where lots of people came out to help the community in different ways.
Of course, kids were a part of this too, since kids can also roll up their sleeves to chip in and make things better!
Statia DOET took place on Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21, under the slogan “Compassion to Action”. Just like in other parts of the Kingdom, DOET is the biggest flurry of volunteer activity all year!
Kids got to have fun, work on their skills and practice their teamwork by painting, sprucing up, planting, and other activities that make our surroundings and communities better.
A week before Statia DOET, a motorcade was held to get everyone ready for the event: Cars showing off colourful Statia DOET signs and balloons made their way around the island, making noise and getting everyone excited.
DOET is a yearly initiative made possible all over the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands, by the Oranje Fonds. DOET on Statia is managed by the Labour Office of the Island Government. Thanks to the Labour Office for the pictures!
