Make a Worry Doll

In Guatemala parents give their kids tiny little “worry dolls.” You tell your dolls your worries at bedtime, put them under your pillow and they will take care of your worries while you sleep peacefully. Here’s how to make a clothes pin worry doll.

Materials:

1 x Wooden clothes pin with a flat round top

1-2 Pipe cleaners

Yarn in different colours

Scissors

Markers

Glue

Directions:

Wrap and twist the pipe cleaner around the middle of the clothes pin to form arms.

Tie a long piece of yarn just below the centre of the clothes pin and knot, leaving a spare 2-3 inches of yarn below the knot.

Begin wrapping the yarn upwards around the middle of the clothes pin and above each arm and down again, to form the doll’s shirt.

Continue wrapping down to the legs. (You can use a different colour yarn if you like – just tie it to the first piece with a knot.)

For a skirt; wrap the yarn around both legs. For pants – wrap each leg individually.

Don’t wrap all the way to the bottom of the legs as the yarn might fall off.

To finish, cut the yarn leaving about 3 extra inches to tie and secure to the extra piece you left at the beginning. Tie the knot at the back of your doll.

Draw in the doll’s face using markers.

Make hair by gluing on a pipe cleaner or yarn.

Colour in your doll’s shoes using a marker.
