St. Dominic Primary School teams up with Animal Defenders to bring food to stray animals

Animal Defenders is a local foundation that helps stray animals get the food and care they need, because they have no homes.

Ms. Mercedes de Windt is one of the volunteers who works with the animals and gives out information about how to help them. Two weeks ago, she brought along her pet Pete and taught the children about caring for, spaying and neutering their house pets so that there are fewer strays on the island.

In Honour of World Animal Day, which was October 4, Miss Mercedes asked the students and teachers to collect food or whatever they could to help the stray animals that Animal Defenders takes care of. She gave everyone time to collect as many items as they could.

J’aishaa Jeffers is a second grade student who said she enjoyed the speech and learned a lot from Ms. Mercedes. J’aishaa worked with the teachers to get the food together to present it to Animal Defenders. Along with some of the other students of St. Dominic Primary School, J’aishaa was able to give a huge box and receive some Animal Defenders’ bumper stickers for the students.

It’s good that children can get involved in donating to Animal Defenders.
