Poem

New Beginnings

By L.F

After the storm, I see just wood

Only stumps and broken branches

Where the trees once stood

The once mighty Neem Tree is no more

Just twisted branches lying on the floor

But I choose to sit and admire the sight

For now there is plenty of time in the morning light

Appreciating what we have all been through

Safe and secure in our corner of the house

Without a view

The ground is wet, what is left is brown

The wind and rain have torn everything down

But wait, I see a wee bird take flight

There is a scurry of something deep in the leaves

And low and behold some tiny bits of green

As new leaves emerge all shiny and clean

Right where the palms on the ground lie silently

Long after being swayed around so violently

Roofing in the swimming pool is floating

Yet out at sea, the waves are slowing

And the colour is slowly turning blue

New beginnings for the tiny creatures

For each of us it also features

As we come to grips that life goes on

To rebuild, to show strength we shall not sway

There is much to follow as Nature leads the way

The sunlight shines through, the clouds dissipate

And we slowly rise to meet what fate

Has metered out to us yet again

New beginnings after the hurricane
