St. Maarten’s Young Inventors

~ Kids are creating a new basketball called the AK8 ~

What are you inventing?

We are trying to do a double invention: Make an AK8 basketball that doesn’t deflate and that keeps scores.

What made you think you wanted to do this invention?

When we play with our friends for an upcoming game, we can’t keep track of our own individual score. With the help of this basketball, we can determine who got more 2-pointer and 3-pointer shots! Also, what we need more practice on! Sometimes the ball deflates or goes flat at many practices or games, so we thought of a solution for that. So, it’s a double invention!

Why did do you choose to do this invention?

Because we love basketball and it’s our favourite sport.

How are you going to proceed with this?

We would like to create a sensor in the basketball that detects the score, it will have a mini light weight scoreboard, telling us how many 2-pointers and 3-pointers were made with that ball. It will have a sensor to detect the distance and when it goes through the hoop! Also, we will insert a tube sealant slime into the basketball when filling it with air. This seals the basketball from inside forming a plug that stops air loss. And it doesn’t add any extra weight to it as well.

What do you hope to achieve with this? What will be the end result?

With the help of the sensor in the new AK8 basketball, we will know what we are good at and what we need to work on. This will help us to practice for our upcoming basketball matches.

Finally, why did you name this ball an AK8 basketball?

A stands for Aryan & K stands for Krishang and we are both eight years old.
