So many kids had a fun time taking part in the King’s Games this year – more than 4,000 kids from 16 different elementary schools, to be exact!
The festivities take place all across the Dutch Kingdom, in honour of the birthday of the King of the Netherlands, Willem Alexander. On the day of the games (April 22), pupils focus the entire day on playing different sports and having fun, rather than spending time behind their desks.
The King’s real birthday is on April 27, which is called “King’s Day”. In the Netherlands, there are huge festivities all across the country on this day.
This year was celebrated under the theme “Feel fit!” and the day embraced the importance of exercise and staying healthy. Students played all sorts of sports and games and they also enjoyed singing, dancing and making crafts. The day was full of laughter, and friendly competition.
The opening of the special day was marked by pupils of Prins Willem Alexander and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. primary schools welcoming Governor Eugene Holiday and Education Minister Rodolphe Samuel. The day was organised by the gym teachers of various schools, together with the government’s Department of Sports.
Everyone enjoyed a healthy and tasty breakfast provided by Cake House Bakery.
