Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL) wants to know how your life has been affected by the current coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, and is inviting the youth to express themselves and join a special contest!
The worldwide outbreak has had a great effect on all of our lives. The lives of young people in particular are very different. Not going to school or hanging out with friends, taking part in online meetings and distance learning – it’s a whole new world for kids!
The library has launched a contest, as part of the PJL 2020 Literacy Campaign, inviting all St. Maarten’s children to express themselves in various ways. The contest has the full support of Education Minister Rodolphe Samuel.
Here are some questions the library wants you to think about:
- How do you deal with the COVID-19 pandemic?
- How are you experiencing this whole new situation?
- What do you miss, and what do you see as a gain (a positive)?
- Do you have feelings of excitement, fear, joy, sadness, anger, loneliness, laziness, creativity; or does it all feel like just a dream?
- What are your thoughts, your challenges, ideas, inspirations, or intentions?
- How does this change your life?
- How will it change your future?
With any of these questions in mind, PJL is asking you to express yourself in the following ways:
For primary school students – Cycle 1 (4-8 years old): Make a drawing, rhyme, poem, riddle or any other verbal expression.
Primary school students – Cycle 2 (8-12 years old): Write an essay, poem, story, song text or any other verbal expression.
The contest also counts for secondary school students: Word, sound and images or a combination of these (such as video, song, rap, dance, poster, blog, music, painting or picture).
The library said in a press release that more details will be provided to the various school management teams.
