AMAsterdam (no, it’s not a misspelling) is a sister company of Ama Jewellers (established since 1986); it opened doors after a complete revamp in February 2020, just before the pandemic.
“Being a part of the kingdom, it’s my personal opinion that we don’t have much to show for it. We are the Caribbean, and that is very easy to project with our beautiful beaches and friendly people, some, a very little degree of American influence with the various food franchises, but not much to show that we are a part of the kingdom. Ama, being our company name, and given the Dutch atmosphere we have brought to our alley, was not very difficult to come up with a name AMAsterdam – Sint Maarten’s version of Amsterdam with a Caribbean flair and warmth,” said owner Arun.
This Valentine’s Day, there’s a storewide special on everything, but you have to head over there to find out! AMAsterdam has a wide assortment of items, such as gold and diamond jewellery; precious stones, such as emerald, rubies, sapphires, tanzanites alexandrites, paraiba tourmalines; semi-precious gem jewellery sets in gold as well as silver jewellery and designer-name items.
It also stocks an envious selection of brand-name watches for men and women, as well as for the younger ones. Also in stock is a very tasteful blend of high-end jewellery and watches, along with a selection of fine alcohol, Cuban cigars, cigarettes, men and ladies’ handbags, luggage, travel accessories, souvenirs, T-shirts, men’s wear and authentic Sint Maarten souvenirs made by Delft blue for Amasterdam.
Along the line of edible goodies are Dutch cheeses, chocolates, cookies and ice cream. Food tools like cheese knives, slicers, graters, boards and fondue kits, from brands like Boska and Victorinox, are available, as well as a fully stocked bar with over 40 different beer varieties, exotic rums, single malts, whiskies for every palate. If you’re in a mood for hookah, there are lots of flavours to choose from.
There’s entertainment by DJ Petty from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and the first drink for all ladies will be on the house. The Love Martini is highly recommended to enjoy on Valentine’s Day.
