Calling all dogs! St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation needs you for its Annual Dog Show. Feel free to also bring along your humans too. The dog show will be held in Emilio Wilson Historical and Cultural Park in Cul d Sac this Sunday, October 28.
Dogs can compete for ribbons, prizes and major “barking rights” in various categories such as Best Small Breed Dog, Best Mixed Breed Dog and, of course, Best in Show. The fun classes will feature favourites such as Best Tail Wag, Best Kiss, and the most popular Costume Contest. (Hint: You can get your human to dress up too. After all, it is very close to Halloween!)
Celebrity judges for the annual doggie parade are veterinarian Dr. Ruth, Police Officer Felix Richard, and radio personality Jeff “Dr. Soc” Socrin. All dogs and their accompanying humans are urged to put their best paws and feet forward to impress the judges.
Registration for the annual dog show starts at 1:00pm. The fun events will begin at 1:30pm with an obstacle course that dogs will have to manoeuvre to test their skills. The regular judging will commence at 2:30pm.
Registration per dog is US $10. Human parents and spectators can attend the dog show free of cost. Additional donations are always welcomed by the foundation. Interested pet owners can call Animal Welfare Foundation at 520-8887or check out SXM AWF Facebook page for more information about the dog show and other activities and events.
Funds raised from the dog show will be used to continue Animal Welfare Foundation’s vital care projects that are all aimed at minimizing the abandoned, unwanted and stray-dog and -cat population on the island. Community work includes spay and neuter programmes, mange care, and school talks about the importance of caring for and not abusing animals.
