St. Martin/St. Maarten Day may be over, but the entertainment and celebrations are continuing.
This Friday night, November 18, at Belair Community Centre, enjoy musical diversity sure to bring joy and calm in these days of stress and worry. This Classical Delight is a special one because the show will feature local singers and musicians who will surprise you with their talent and passion.
Themed “A Post St. Maarten’s Day Musical Treat,” the show offers performances of percussion instruments, piano, guitar, cello, and lots of singing. Featured artists are Irina Kaufman, Magali Le Gouais, Yenys Lugo, Carole Bayly, Jerrel Seymonson and LaVaune Hodge-Henry,
There will also be a selection of songs performed by a choir composed entirely of St. Martin/St. Maarten singers. The choir goes by the name of La Chorale “Charlie Par Choeur” and choir members have been preparing for this concert since September with weekly sessions led by director Charles Vangeenderhuysen and accompanied by pianist Magali Le Gouais.
The Charlie Par Choeur Chorale meets for rehearsals in Marigot on Wednesdays at 7:30pm at the music school called École de Musique Pianissimo located on Rue de Republique. For this reason, the group is often referred to as the Pianissimo Choir. The ensemble is composed of men and women: sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. Their repertoire is deep and wide-reaching: from Bach to Brubeck, from Sephardic lullabies to jazz and popular standards. Whatever the style of song performed, you can count on precision of harmony and mastery of rhythms. However, the overwhelming impression is one of pure happiness in being a part of such gorgeous music. And by the way, the choir is open to anyone interested to join in the fun.
Friday night’s line-up will include pieces of all this and more! Come out and support these talented members of our community and enjoy music to calm the savage beast – the show begins promptly at 8:00pm. Advance tickets are $25 (students $10) and are on sale at Van Dorp stores, The Daily Herald, Shipwreck Shops, Andante Music School, and Ecole Musique Pianissimo as well as from some choir members and of course also at the door on the evening of the concert. Tickets at the door will be $30 ($12 for students).
