EPIC Birdwalk
Join in the birding fun!
Join us on Sunday, October 4, at 7:00am for another EPIC bird walk in cooperation with DIVI Little Bay and birding expert Binkie van Es! Meeting point is Divi’s front desk.
Birds can amaze and delight you. Once you take time and notice their beauty, they can captivate you for a lifetime. Have you ever wondered what the world would be like without birds? Well, beyond their beauty and splendour, birds matter! Their impact on the natural world and our own history should not be underestimated.
Did you know that birds contribute to the diversity of plant life through pollination and seed dispersal? Or that birds control insect outbreaks and create important nesting cavities for other species? Or that they help rid the world of disease through scavenger “clean-up” services? Birds help shape our culture, provide important economic benefits, and serve as important indicators for scientists about the state of the environment.
On the walk, Es and EPIC’s environmental educator Laura Bijnsdorp will guide you through one of St. Maarten’s important wetland areas, Little Bay Pond. You will learn more about the ponds ecosystem, flora and fauna and lots about the various birds you will hear and see along the way!
Sign up now and join us on this amazing bird walk. Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring water and a pair of binoculars. Organizers will make sure they have a few extra binoculars for participants and enough bird identification cards for the whole group, so you can check out the island’s bird species for yourself.
