Fireworks on the Lagoon

Each year, thousands of persons living and operating businesses around the lagoon have to venture to Maho or Philipsburg to catch a glimpse of a fireworks show to ring in the New Year. But not this New Year’s Eve! With the help of 40 businesses, ranging from hotels and marinas to restaurants and the community, a nine-minute fireworks show will be held in the lagoon!

Simpson Bay Fireworks Foundation, initiated by its president Lal Baharani of Lal’s Indian Cuisine, started raising funds for the show about a year ago.

Lal: “In the past, persons who were dining around the lagoon would leave by 11:30pm to go and find a spot in Maho or Philipsburg to see the fireworks show. This of course was not great for people that live around the lagoon or operate their businesses there. Now people can stay till the early morning hours around the lagoon area and enjoy a fireworks show in the lagoon. So far, the feedback has been great. I think the community around the lagoon is very excited. ”

Just like many other lagoon-view businesses, Lal’s will be open for the first time during New Year’s. Avoiding traffic and parking will also be easier, although those interested in spending their New Year’s Eve at their favourite venue around the lagoon need to make reservations soon! Seats are being filled quickly!

So this New Year’s Eve, opt to spend it overlooking Sint Maarten’s gorgeous lagoon being lit in various colours by a brand new fireworks show.

Simpson Bay Fireworks Foundation wishes everyone a Happy New Year and hopes to grow this lagoon fireworks show, making it bigger, longer and better each year!
