Great Bay Jamboree celebrates Philipsburg’s resurgence

Great Bay Jamboree celebrates Philipsburg’s resurgence

On Thursday, January 30, the Caribbean Multihull Challenge will see a cruising multihull fleet of 20 or so yachts anchoring in Great Bay. They are there for a day of fun, including a unique sailing race with 10 very fast trimarans racing along the beach safely beyond the swimming areas, a beach sports challenge, parties, and a fireworks show produced by our own SXM Fireworks at 8:00pm.

CMC sailors, island residents and visitors will be treated to the day, courtesy of many generous sponsors including the Dutch Blonde Beach Bar, which will be the official headquarters and main viewing station for the three-hour racing event. Dutch Blonde will be joined by other bars and restaurants that have chipped in to support the event, including Boardwalk beach bars such as Big Bastard’s and St. Rose. Along with other establishments like Holland House, they will offer drink specials serving Tito’s Handmade Vodka – another sponsor of the day.

The first Great Bay Beach and Boardwalk Jamboree is fully supported by St. Maarten Tourism Bureau and by the Port of St. Maarten, each providing critical funding for the event. Adding to this is Bobby’s Marina and Dock Maarten Marina – both coming across for the cost of the evening that ends with a fireworks show.

Events like the Jamboree highlight the resurgence of Great Bay Beach, the Boardwalk, and the Shops in town, but nowhere is found anything as spectacular as the miracle of the new Dock Maarten Marina. Mostly completed for now and fully open, this mega yacht facility offers an eye-popping display of some of the largest pleasure yachts to ever visit the Caribbean. According to Brian Deher, founder and managing director of St. Maarten Ultra Marine, “The tremendous growth in the mega yacht sector will continue, and our facility helps to make our part of the Northeast Caribbean a hub for charter activity in the winter months.”

And this is completely on plan with TEATT Minister Grisha Heyliger-Marten’s vision of growth for St Maarten. The ongoing improvement in infrastructure, aesthetics, and conveniences for all of our local and visitor markets will result in a better economy for St. Maarten’s people. Come and enjoy the Jamboree and the Fireworks Show at 8:00pm. Dock Maarten along with Bobby’s Marina has dug down deep to provide this spectacular show for our Jamboree participants.

Come and enjoy!
