Did you know that one of the island’s most famous feathered friends, Gizmo, turns 30 years old this June? Yes, the infamous Divi Diva has been delighting foreigners and locals alike with her vibrant personality for three decades now, and Divi Little Bay Beach Resort is gearing up for a celebration like none other.
"We wanted to celebrate Gizmo's milestone birthday in style," says Resort General Manager Anne-Marie Brooks. "It's not every day that a feathered friend turns 30! And what better way to celebrate than with our cherished guests and community members who have shared in Gizmo's antics over the years?"
If anyone deserves a week-long celebration, it’s Gizmo. Since Divi Resorts’ President & COO, Marco Galaverna, brought her to St. Maarten when she was a barely-feathered baby bird, Gizmo has brought joy to countless people on the island – locals and visitors alike. When the Patriot’s Cheerleader team visited the island in 2018, she squawked her way into the centre of attention and charmed them all with her stubborn attitude and cheeky quirks. After the 2017 hurricane that overwhelmed the island, Gizmo became a local symbol of resilience, flocking around to greet members of the Dutch Military, and reminding everyone that in times of hardship, we can weather any storm with community and a bit of laughter. Throughout the pandemic as well, she remained a beacon of hope and light-hearted comfort.
Divi Little Bay Beach Resort will host a lively week of festivities from Saturday, June 1, to Friday, June 7, including Gizmo-themed games, food, and celebrations for the whole family. They invite everyone to come see the pulse-thumping Control Band on Tuesday, June 4, at Gizmo’s official 30th birthday party from 5:00 to 8:00pm. On the evening of June 4, Gizmo will also be honoured by the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau in a ceremony to award her as a tourism ambassador for the island, so don’t miss out! You’re also invited to enjoy some tasty food and drinks and see Gizmo’s favourite live band – Showbizz with King Beau Beau – play on Friday, June 7, at Gizmo’s Bar & Grill.
