The chic and air-conditioned Luxbar feels like an oasis when walking down Front Street on a hot summer afternoon. Experienced mixologist Kat Adams welcomes patrons with a smile and hands them an iPad with the bar’s ever-evolving drink menu so that they can choose a well-deserved refreshment.
It is no coincidence that the bar is located across the famous Whisky Paradise store. According to owner Chats Mahtani, Luxbar is the largest family-owned whisky bar on St. Maarten and the akin Whisky Paradise carries the largest selection of whiskies on the island. Chats’ parents opened the store in the early nineties and Chats joined the whisky emporium nine years ago, as he inherited his parents’ passion for the popular beverage.
Last year, Chats decided to expand the family business by opening a bar that incorporated the store’s high-end liquors. Now, customers can combine a shopping spree with matching cocktails – to try a spirit before buying it, to refresh themselves after browsing the store’s large selection or after a long day at the office.
According to the owner, mixologist Kat is one of the bar’s biggest assets. Her creativity and outgoing personality make people return time after time for a good laugh and, of course, an amazing drink. Kat’s signature drinks are often creative twists on classics that highlight the spirits, while using local ingredients that highlight the island – a perfect combination if you ask us.
