Pink Sail

~ With Aqua Mania Adventures ~

Aqua Mania Adventures invites everyone to join their 3rd Annual Pink Sunset Sail in support of Breast Cancer with the Positive & Elektralyets foundations.

After a very hectic 2017 and much recovery, Aqua Mania Adventures is proud to bring back the Pink Sunset Sail to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. This third big bash takes place on Sunday, September 30, from 5:00 to 7:00pm, to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month. Proceeds will go to the Positive and Elektralyets foundations to help continue their quest to raise Breast Cancer Awareness on the island of St. Maarten for screenings and education. They have an action-packed schedule this year and Aqua Mania is indeed privileged to be the first event.

Last year’s event was cancelled due to hurricanes Irma and Maria. In the wake of such devastation, the 2018 event is a celebration of resiliency, recovery and revival. Just as St. Maarten recovers daily, so too are many breast cancer victims – not all of them battling the disease, but the many children, husbands, friends and family that endure the hardships and aftermaths of treatment. This year, we want to highlight preparedness. We want to focus on early detection and self-awareness. Being forewarned is being forearmed.

The last two Pink Sunset Sail events garnered such positive feedback that visitors are even booking their vacation dates around the event. It is the best way Aqua Mania knows how, to contribute to the local foundations that then use the funds to support the community with free screenings and education.

At 5:30pm, Pink Sunset Sail will depart from the marina at Simpson Bay Resort where Aqua Mania Adventures is located. Lambada and Tango, 65’ sailing catamarans, will head out for a coastal sail into the sunset, allowing 150 people to be part of this unique event.

Tickets cost US $40 and include a unique Pink T-shirt, a Pink Mimosa, open bar, snacks and a wonderful sail along St. Maarten’s golden coastline, sightseeing, sipping cocktails and watching the green flash. Tickets can be bought at Aqua Mania Adventures locations in Simpson Bay Resort and Divi Little Bay, directly online or at the activity desks for hotel guests.

With the assistance of local businesses, Aqua Mania Adventures will again organize a raffle on board the boats as an additional fundraising opportunity which will increase the total proceeds for the foundations and guests will get the chance to win fabulous prizes.

“As St. Maarten recovers, people shy away from thinking about difficult things. We want to remind them that timely action can halt things from being truly difficult,” says Positive Foundation President Shelly Alphonso. “It is our responsibility to be positive in the fight to save our nation’s women by reminding them to be breast aware and providing them with the opportunities to get checked. Aqua Mania Adventures’ continued support of our ‘Feel it, Find it, Fight it!’ be breast aware campaign provides us with a unique opportunity to keep wives alive, mothers loving and sisters laughing. This October, the Positive Foundation along with its other partnerships including the SMMC, Winair, the medical practitioners on St. Maarten, faculty and students of AUC and sponsors will provide free screening opportunities, 100 free mammograms, free breast self-examination workshops and free educational literature at the various medical clinics on the Island. These are just some of the ways Positive Foundation plans to educate our community on the importance of early detection and the symptoms and signs of breast cancer,” Shelly concluded.

Elektralyets Foundation President Mercedes "Elektra" van der Waals-Wyatt: “Elektralyets Foundation has been collaborating with Positive Foundation for almost 10 years. Elektralyets’ main goal is to coordinate the big Breast Cancer Awareness events throughout the month of October and to unite women and men of St. Maarten, alerting them about our cause. This has been a developing process over the years and each year, Elektralyets Foundation seeks out new sponsors and organisations that would like to work with them to help the Breast Cancer Awareness movement save lives on the island of St. Maarten and reach more persons each year. That’s why we are also happy to collaborate with Aqua Mania Adventures which has also become a great partner and continues to grow our event each year with innovative and creative ideas.”

With a 90-minute beautiful sunset sail and the chance to win fabulous prizes, Pink Sunset Sail is guaranteed to be a successful fundraising event. Aqua Mania staff persons will show their support with “Fridays in Pink” for the whole month of October, hoping that many other companies will follow suit.

Aqua Mania Adventures is a water sports company with over 27 years of experience in the customer service industry. Its friendly and reliable staff persons offer daytrips to all destinations (Anguilla, Saba and St. Barths), have all the toys for water sports and run a professional and well established dive centre.

Inaugurated in 1998, Positive Foundation organizes month-long, annual breast cancer awareness campaigns. Each year in October, activities include public service announcements via radio & TV called “Women and Breast Health”, a breast cancer awareness run/walk challenge, free clinical breast examination screens offered by our resident health care providers, public and private group information demonstration sessions on the importance of being breast aware & the distribution of educational literature like “Breast Self-Examination Shower Guides” and “Women and Breast Health Handbook”.

ELEKTRA L.Y.E.T.S. (Let Your Electricity Touch Somebody) is the basic core and fundamental reason for this foundation with the perspective that every person in this community can make a difference starting with themselves and in turn helping others through their virtues, gifts, talents and intellectual abilities.
